The canopy proposed for The Gramercy entrance renovation was originally intended as an all steel structure, but as the project progressed, costs starting mounting and this proved prohibitive. Solar Star was called in at that point.
We proposed replacing the steel roof and rafters with a membranous cover with concealed structural trough below the fabric for invisible drainage and a handsome appearance from above and below. The metallic-silver steel sub-frame was preserved, but with thinner wall members permitted by the reduced roof weight, further reducing both material and installation costs.
This was then enhanced with decorative caps and highlighted with a matching crown molding around the roof perimeter. This maintained the creative design of the original while adding a lightness of color and fabric for an effect that is at once majestic and inviting. The results speak for themselves.
